Biography

Dr. Buchan is a Professor in the Department of Pathology, ϰϲͼ, and the Director of Clinical Microbiology, Serology, and Molecular Infectious Disease at Children’s Wisconsin.  In his role as Professor, Dr. Buchan participates in the education of Pathology Residents as well as Infectious Disease Fellows and Medical students during their rotations Microbiology and Molecular Pathology. He leads trainees in practical, didactic, and discussion sessions related to education in clinical microbiology and molecular diagnostics. In his role as Director for Clinical Microbiology Dr. Buchan oversees all aspects of the clinical microbiology laboratory including test interpretation, review of daily results, and council of technologists. He provides consultation with clinicians to aid in appropriate laboratory utilization and serves on multiple hospital committees including Infection prevention and Antimicrobial Stewardship. In addition, Dr. Buchan has an active research program, serving as Principal Investigator for numerous clinical trials involving novel diagnostic assays for the identification of bacterial, viral and fungal pathogens.
