Biography

Dr. Thomas comes to the Medical College from Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where he recently completed a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine and served as chief fellow in 2007. He completed a pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in 2005. His research interests include concussion in children, including the clinical identification and management of concussion. He is studying ways to identify patients at risk for post-concussive syndrome, a constellation of physical, emotional, cognitive and sleep disturbances that may persist for weeks or months following an injury. His goal is to improve diagnosis, speed up initial recovery and decrease the risk of subsequent injury. He received his medical and master of public health degrees from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., in 2002. He received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in 1998.
