ϰϲͼ Ultrasound Laboratory

At Froedtert Hospital, an ICAEL-accredited echocardiography laboratory performs over 5,000 studies per year. Obtaining accreditation is an arduous process of evaluations and peer review. Participating in the accreditation process is voluntary. Accreditation signifies the Froedtert & the ϰϲͼ Echo Lab has been independently reviewed, examined and recognized as achieving a high level of quality.

Transthoracic echocardiograms are performed by skilled sonographers, over 6,500 studies done a year. Transesophageal echocardiograms are performed in the laboratory frequently, as well as in the cardiac catheterization laboratory to guide device closure of cardiac defects. We have a busy stress echo service, performing dobutamine stress echocardiograms as well as treadmill echocardiograms. Although our supine bicycle echocardiogram studies are equally effective in evaluating patients for coronary artery disease, they have been especially useful in evaluating and monitoring patients with significant valvular disease.

We are the first laboratory in the state of Wisconsin to obtain the commercially available 3D ultrasound machine by Philips. This allows physicians to view the heart in more detail, providing better localization of structural abnormalities.
