The Child Advocacy and Protection Services (CAPS) program operates seven Child Advocacy Centers and three medical satellite offices across Wisconsin. It also includes a hospital-based child advocacy program in Milwaukee.

The hospital-based  provides services to children seen at Children’s Wisconsin and associated clinics as well as to community physicians, law enforcement, and child protective services when concerns about child maltreatment arise.

The CAPS is composed of 5 board-certified child abuse pediatricians, 12 Advanced Practice Providers with child abuse expertise, 2 social workers, 10 behavioral health consultants, 9 forensic interviewers, and 11 advocate case managers who are actively engaged in teaching and research in addition to their clinical duties.

The CAPS program ensures high quality patient care by conducting weekly medical and forensic interview peer-review sessions for selected child maltreatment cases.

Our outpatient Child Advocacy Centers provide onsite services including forensic interviews, behavioral and mental health services and support, medical evaluations, and youth and caregiver advocacy services.
