The James E. Youker Endowed Chair in Radiology was established to honor James E. Youker, MD, FACR.
Dr. Youker was Chair of the Department of Radiology from 1968 until 2014. Under his leadership, the Department of Radiology has become nationally recognized and Dr. Youker has achieved pre-eminent national recognition as a leader in radiological sciences.
The Department of Radiology at the ϰϲͼ has long been a national leader in teaching and patient care. We value excellence, compassion and professionalism. Over the years, the Department of Radiology has produced a growing roster of graduates, including over 350 radiology residents, fellows and instructors. Under Dr. Youker’s leadership, these radiologists have become very successful clinicians, educators, researchers and administrators with the same core values.
The Endowed Chair in Dr. Youker’s name provides an important legacy for physicians and scientists of the future and a fitting tribute to Dr. Youker’s outstanding career. Dr. Youker received the ϰϲͼ’s highest faculty honor, the Distinguished Service Award, in 1989. In 2008, he received the Medical Society of Milwaukee County’s highest honor, it's Distinguished Service Award. He is the recipient of four gold medals for “having rendered exceptional services to the science of radiology”, from the American College of Radiology, the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Radiological Society of North America, and the Association of University Radiologists. He is also past president of The American Board of Medical Specialties. In 2008, he was named an honorary alumnus of the MCW/Marquette Medical Alumni Association.
This professorship is held by Dr. Vincent P. Mathews, Chair, Department of Radiology, with proceeds from the endowment supporting the Department of Radiology. By contributing to this effort, you will help ensure Dr. Youker’s outstanding legacy endures and resources will remain available to help the Department maintain its excellence in education, patient care and research.
The Guillermo F. Carrera and Carla Claussen Fund was established to honor the accomplishments of Guillermo F. Carrera, MD, FACR, and Ms. Carla Claussen.
Guillermo F. Carrera, MD, FACR, earned his doctor of medicine from Harvard Medical School - Boston, MA in 1972 and then went on to complete his residency at Peter Brent Brigham Hospital, Boston, MA in 1976. He joined the faculty at the ϰϲͼ in 1977, quickly earning the title of Professor of Diagnostic Radiology in the Section of Musculoskeletal Imaging & General Radiology. He has been recognized perennially on the Best Doctors® in America list. As an extraordinary clinician, educator, and leader, Dr. Carrera is a passionate advocate for improving the quality and breadth of medical education for students, residents, fellows, and instructors. He served as Program Director for the Radiology residency program from 1985 until 2016, and as Section Chief of the Musculoskeletal and General section from 1977 to 2016.
Carla Claussen has been one of the most recognizable faces in the Department for over 40 years. After serving a remarkable 35 years as Residency Program Coordinator, she left the Department of Radiology for a well-earned retirement. Carla’s personal investment in each resident and fellow made all feel like family. She coordinated the training of more than 300 radiologists. Her goal has always been to see radiology residents and fellows succeed during their training and beyond.
