ϰϲͼ General Internal Medicine Hospitalist Program - Education

Residents in Inpatient Medicine

Residents are exposed to Hospitalist faculty any time they complete a Medicine Inpatient Rotation at Froedtert & the ϰϲͼ. On average, Residents will be on Froedtert Health Medical Teams between 4-5 months each academic year. Additionally, residents will rotate through Transplant Medicine, which is also staffed by Hospitalists.

Procedure Team

Under the direct guidance and supervision of the medicine bedside procedure service attendings, residents and students will perform a multitude of procedures. The core procedures include paracentesis, thoracentesis, diagnostic and/or therapeutic lumbar puncture. Additional common procedures include hemodialysis catheter placement, central venous line placement, pulmonary drain placement, bone marrow biopsy, and knee arthrocentesis. Residents and students will also become proficient in the use of point-of-care ultrasound techniques, as ultrasound is used for nearly all of these listed procedures.

Hospital Medicine Fellowship

We offer an immersive and structured 2-year academic fellowship, with training in research methodology for candidates interested in pursuing a clinician investigator career in hospital medicine.

Hospitalist Medicine Elective

Internal medicine residents work with Hospitalist faculty in a collaborative learning environment on our Medicine Inpatient Rotations at Froedtert Hospital. On average, internal medicine residents rotate on the Froedtert Hospital medicine teams 4-5 months a year. Additionally, residents also work with hospitalist faculty on our transplant and procedures service, as well as a dedicated one on one experience during our hospital medicine inpatient elective.

Hospitalist Educational Conferences

Learning Academy Lecture Series 

Presenters discuss their innovative work experience and provide tips and suggestions for success. The idea behind the CME accredited learning academy is to approach a topic in a way that is accessible to everyone who is interested irrespective of pre-existing skill level. Monthly sessions with total number of sessions being anywhere between 3 and 8. The overall goal is to create session series addressing med-ed, quality, research, and community engagement topics that are of interest to members of the division.

Learning Academy Series: Once or twice a month on a Tuesday from 12-1 p.m.

GIM seminars and Grand Rounds

GIM seminar series offers a high-yield session that is meant to support the professional development of all GIM faculty. Provides early and mid-career faculty a platform to participate and present at these sessions and to earn CME credits.

GIM Seminar Series: 1st & 3rd Friday of the month from 12-1 p.m.

Update in Hospital Medicine Series

To discuss new updates and literature related to Hospital Medicine in a journal club format.

Update in Hospital Medicine Series: Scheduled first Monday of every month

Morbidity and Mortality Conferences

Discussing case studies related to Hospital Medicine.

Morbidity and Mortality Conferences: Scheduled the fourth Wednesday of every three months 12-1 p.m.

Faculty Development 

Dr. Jha is tasked with optimizing the Academic/Educational Programs and activities in alignment with Divisional and Departmental strategic goals and in partnership with GIM’s leadership team. Dr. Jha is responsible for the oversight of academic productivity of the faculty and trainees in the division and ensuring even stronger contribution to the academic mission of ϰϲͼ.

Mentorship: Mentor & Mentee Program

To foster impactful, individualized mentorship based on the needs of faculty. Faculty members are given the opportunity to formally connect with a mentor.  Mentors and mentees will meet twice a year and go over career goals and opportunities, resources for scholarly development, building professional connections and progress towards promotion. The division will facilitate these meetings.

Affinity Groups

It is a peer mentorship program to promote scholarship and collaboration among faculty members. Provides opportunity to faculty and mid-levels to join 8 different Affinity groups based on their interest. (Research, QI, Medical Education and Case report)
